About

I am a qualified Grief Recovery Method Specialist who runs (group and one-to-one) programmes to help people recover from significant emotional loss.

The programme is the Grief Recovery Method and has been around for thirty years successfully helping thousands of people with any one of the forty or so losses that there are e.g. death of loved one, death of pet, divorce, moving house, loss of job, ending of romantic relationship, loss of confidence, loss of a future plan etc.  It is a structured programme that gives you tools to recover from the pain of loss.

It is not counselling, it is an educational course that gives you the tools to take action and make changes in your life.  It accelerates your recovery, instead of the feelings from your loss be carried into relationships, or over your lifetime.

We are often taught how to gain things in life e.g. an education, a job etc but we are not taught how to deal with and recover from loss.  The Grief Recovery method does both; it is a set of tools to learn, to help you gain emotional completion with a past or current loss and can be used again for any future losses.

I was personally drawn to this programme after experiencing a series of losses.  Twelve years ago my eldest sister died and then seven months later my Mum died.  At the time my husband had been made redundant and then I was made redundant.  I remember knowing I that I would have to go through grief and being afraid of not knowing what that was.  I read a few books at the time but they didn’t really help.  I also went to my GP for bereavement counselling and she said it wasn’t an option with their services, and then she offered me anti-depressants.  I said that I was not depressed, I was grieving and did not need tablets.  Years later I studied meditation and mindfulness (choosing to be in the present moment, rather than our minds usual habit of thinking or worrying about the past or jumping to thinking or worrying about the future).  Being mindful really helped the grief.  If you are interested in Mindfulness, I would recommend Eckhart Tolle’s books ‘The Power of Now’, ‘A New Earth’ and ‘Stillness Speaks’ and my Mindfulness and Meditation Class here   but read on to find out what really worked to help me recover from my grief ……

Then my middle Sister died six years ago and although the grief was easier, due to practising mindfulness, but it still was immensely sad, so  I looked again for help and discovered the Grief Recovery Method.  It was refreshing to find that it was a practical step-by-step programme, rather than just intellectual, and within seven sessions it helped me get completion on the pain of grief of all three family members, and happily left me with the ability to think of my Mum and two Sisters with fond memories and a smile.  I feel much lighter, like I have put down a heavy load.  It was transformative for me.

I got so much from the Grief Recovery Method that I trained to become a Grief Recovery Method Specialist and now run the programme for groups (eight sessions) and one to ones (seven sessions) on Zoom. For an initial free chat, please contact me via my contact page Contact Page
